SQL Planner – Event Log Monitoring Feature

Monitor, analyze, and manage your SQL Server and Windows Server event logs efficiently — all from a single intuitive dashboard.

Overview

The Event Log Monitoring feature within SQL Planner helps you stay on top of critical system and application events by providing an organized, visual overview of your server logs. Once you log in to SQL Planner, you’ll find the SQL Server Monitoring module. Navigate to the Server Overview section — this is dedicated to Windows Server Monitoring. Among various dashboard categories, our focus today will be on the Event Log tab.

Event Log Monitoring Dashboard

Real-Time Event Log Dashboard

When you open the Event Log tab, you’ll see the current monitoring status for all configured servers.

  • Hourly Error Occurrences: The first graph displays hourly error occurrences per server.
  • Aggregated Breakdown: On the right-hand side, you’ll find an aggregated server-level breakdown categorized by log severity: Information, Warning, Error, and Critical.

At a glance, you can assess your environment’s health — and as seen in this example, there are currently no critical errors detected.

Filtering and Analysis

The filtering options help you quickly locate the information that matters most:

Filter by Date Focus on a specific time range to correlate events with reported issues.
Filter by Log Type Narrow your view to only error-related or warning-level logs.
Search by Keywords Type in a specific message pattern or event source to find specific incidents.
Server-Level Focus Apply filters to individual servers when troubleshooting specific nodes.

By selecting only “Error” logs, for example, you can instantly focus on the most pressing issues across your environment.

AI-Powered Insights

AI ENHANCED

SQL Planner includes AI-assisted analysis capabilities. With integrated AI support (compatible with Microsoft Edge for a seamless experience), you can:

  • Ask contextual questions about log trends or error patterns.
  • Get instant summaries and recommendations.
  • Prioritize which errors need immediate attention.

All of this happens right from within the same dashboard — no need to switch tools or search logs manually.

Configuration Guide

Setting up Event Log Monitoring is simple and follows these steps:

1. Navigate: Go to the Configuration section of your SQL Planner instance.
2. Server Selection: Under Event Log Server Selection, choose which servers you want to monitor. Note: By default, no servers are selected for event logging.
3. Bulk Action: Select the desired servers — whether it’s 10 or 100 — with just a few clicks.
4. Define Severity: Choose which log levels to track (e.g., Error, Warning, Critical). You can easily include or exclude specific types by checking or unchecking the boxes.

This configuration applies globally to all selected servers, ensuring a consistent monitoring policy across your entire infrastructure.
